The 2003-2004 men’s basketball team remains the program’s most successful team. The Tommies began their run at the university history books by winning the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association championship with conference most valuable player David Robson and second team all-conference players Steve Lawrence and Andrew Robson leading the way. At the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championships, the Tommies fell seven-points short of the gold medal, losing 88-81 to Fraser Valley. Despite the loss, the silver medal was the first national medal for any sport at the university. At the end of the tournament, the Tommies were given the Duncan MacCullum Fair Play Team award for outstanding sportsmanship.
