Phase 3: Community-enrichment narrative visioning

Phase 3 focused on the Promise of Home project’s third question:

What are the shared hopes and aspirations for a more inclusive community?

Community Engagement

Beginning in summer 2023, the Promise of Home team attended several events to engage the broader Fredericton community in discussions about the stories collected in Phase 2. These events included: the Cultural Expressions Festival, Boyce Farmers Market, Capital Region Newcomer Summit, the Garrison Night Market, the St. Thomas University Resource Fair.

Promise of Home held a community conference, “Our Home Is Here – A Community Conversation,” on October 20–21, 2023. Click here to learn more.

Promise of Home organized a panel discussion, “Where Are You From?”, featuring student leaders from STU and UNB on February 9, 2024. Click here to learn more.

The panel discussion was followed by a student workshop, “Beyond Campus Borders: Dismantling Barriers, Building Solidarity,” on March 27, 2024. Click here to learn more.

Focus Groups

As part of Phase Three the Promise of Home research team has been conducting focus groups with local organizations to explore ideas and expectations around diversity. These sessions are designed to encourage open, interactive discussions about shared experiences, collective action, and community-driven solutions. Promise of Home engaged with a wide range of organizations, including religious groups, nursing homes, 2SLGBTQIA+ advocates, family services, performing arts groups, homeless shelters, sports and recreation organizations, women’s groups, and others. With our facilitation, participants discussed what it means to build an inclusive community in Fredericton.
