Beyond Campus Borders: Dismantling Barriers, Building Solidarity

On March 27, 2024, Promise of Home hosted a student workshop following the earlier panel discussion. Approximately 20 domestic and international students from STU, UNB, and NBCC participated in small-group discussions about campus challenges, including: barriers to social integration, experiences of racism and prejudice, and difficulties accessing campus resources. Key proposals from participants included: improved student union programming to connect student groups, more shared social spaces on campus, faculty diversity training and recruitment of racialized instructors, and a mandatory course on colonial history, and EDI in the Arts curriculum. The workshop provided an opportunity for students to discuss the barriers they face and ways they can build a stronger campus community.
