Our Home Is Here – A Community Conversation
On October 20–21, 2023, Promise of Home held a public conference to share stories collected from newcomers about their immigration journeys, community and school experiences, and their sense of belonging in Fredericton. The event aimed to spark community dialogue and give long-term residents an opportunity to reflect on and respond to newcomer stories.
The conference took place over two days. Friday, October 20th featured an interactive audio-visual exhibit where attendees explored the stories, left messages for the storytellers, and reflected on their own experiences of belonging. On Saturday, October 21, participants engaged in group discussions to identify key priorities and create suggestions for policymakers on how to strengthen and retain diverse communities in New Brunswick. Six main themes emerged from these discussions: immigration, healthcare, education, public services, community building, and racialized experiences.
