Each year, the GISI gives out three conference travel grants of $1000 each for conference travel OUTSIDE of North America.
The conditions for the conference travel grant are as follows:
The maximum value of the grants awarded will be $1000.00.
The period during which this grant can be used extends from July 20, 2014 to June 30, 2015. However, any travel advance claims must be made by March 15, 2015. This is to enable GISI to fall within the budgetary year. Therefore, applicants who intend to attend conferences after March 31, 2015 should submit claims for travel advances and need to support these claims with receipts and other documentation after attending the conference.
Only applications for extensive participation in a conference will be considered. This means that the applicant must, at least, be presenting a paper. Simple attendance at a conference will not be considered.
Preference will be given to applicants based on the extent of their participation in the conference. (eg. presentation of more than one paper, serving multiple functions in the conference, etc.)
Consideration will be given to participants who are taking part in a conference in a capacity other than paper presenter, but the level of participation must be very high (eg. as conference organizer).
Distance traveled and need are factors that the adjudication committee will take into account. Preference will be given to conferences taking place outside of North America. Given that the value of the grant will usually not be enough to cover all of these costs, applicants should demonstrate that they have the resources to cover any remaining costs.
If you are not yet confirmed for participation in a conference, you can still submit an application. The awarding of the grant will be conditional on the confirmation of your participation.
The adjudication committee will also consider the significance/prominence of the conference. Applicants should address this factor in their covering letter and provide any substantiating evidence, if available.
The deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday, July 16, 2014.
Please send your application forms (and any supporting documentation) as hard copies to Shaun Narine, HCH 215.
